New school bags, shoes and stationery usually come top of the list for Back to School season but it was new hair that topped the list for one young schoolgirl in the North East who suffers from alopecia universalis.
Alopecia universalis is said to impact 1 in 1,000 children and teens and the condition saw Ella age ten from Blyth lose all her hair at the age of seven, soon after Ella also lost her eyebrows and eyelashes too. After reaching out to Rob and the team here at Novo Cabelo, Ella has become our first child client to undergo a hair system reveal.
Here at Novo Cabelo we are an innovative and trend-setting hair system company and we continue to wow our followers with our emotional non-surgical hair transformations. With our Founder and award-winning Hair Stylist and TikTok Star, Rod Wood at the helm we are on a mission to shine the spotlight on, and to normalise hair systems.
Rob Wood, Director at Novo Cabelo said:
“Ella is the first child client that we’ve had at Novo Cabelo and it has opened up a whole new market of opportunities for us to showcase our services and make a real impact on young lives. Our ethos is that hair loss, and how it is managed is all about personal choice, some people want to embrace it, others are not ready and look to find solutions, and that is where we come in.
When I first had a consultation with Ella and her first words where she wanted to do cartwheels without fear of her wig falling off, well it really hit a nerve with me and we were very eager to look at the ways we could support her, in a non-intrusive way for such a young scalp.
We are one of the UKs fastest growing hair system companies and our team are quite literally transforming the hair industry with our innovative, non-invasive hair systems.
Rob added:
“We made some slight adaptions to the hair system application, and we used adhesive tape which means the hair system can be maintained at home, which is perfect for young skin. We all designed the hair system together, but we covered all the mirrors and both Ella and Sarah had covered glasses, so it was a total surprise!
With a mini makeover by talented Makeup Artist, Amanda Bell, including new eyelashes and eyebrows, Ella was visibly blown away with her new look and we all had to fight back the tears!”
We predominantly see high demand from a male client base who are suffering male balding, however as the brand expands, demand has grown from other audiences substantially including women, cancer patients, the trans-gender community and children.
Voted 7th Top 100 Influencers 2022 and Social Stylist of the Year finalist at the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2022 and 2023, we have racked up over 20 million views across social in the last 9 months alone and over 180k followers for the inspiring hair transformation reveals, with clients travelling from across the world for the innovative hair replacement treatment.
The live reveal, which took place across our Novo Cabelo social platforms has already seen nearly 250k views on TikTok alone to date and has left Ella completely speechless.

Ella said:
“I love my new hair. It makes me feel confident and is really easy to wear, sometimes I forget it’s on. When we were on holiday, I chose not to wear it because it was so hot in Turkey, but I am lucky I have a choice now. Lots of other kids with Alopecia don’t have a choice.”
Sarah Palmer, Ella’s mam said:
“I first heard about Rob via social media (TikTok) his transformations are amazing and he helps so many people with hair loss. I had to get in touch! Until you go through it yourself or live with someone who has Alopecia, it’s hard to imagine how it feels.
It was awful to watch my little girl go from a bubbly confident child to feeling scared, embarrassed and suffering with anxiety at such a young age due to losing all of her hair. Her hair system has given her options, comfort and confidence. I can’t thank Rob and Amanda enough for making her feel so special during the transformation.”
Rob added:
“We want to utilise our platforms to spread positive messages and to normalise hair systems and tell the story of clients from different backgrounds and make hair replacement normal and seen as common place. I really think over the last few months we’ve turned a corner and made an impact on the industry.”
We have seen an explosive growth trajectory since inception with 52 salon partners and 82 trained stylists across the UK trained in Novo Pro, with imminent plans for global expansion and a new Head Office.
Salons who sign up to become a Novo Pro benefit from a specialised package of training and support. Clients undergoing the non-invasive procedure will benefit from a full head of hair in just two hours, with the hair system process starting at £350 depending on the style of hair, lasting 3-6 months, with a refit every 3-4 weeks.
Rob added:
“Our live reveals continue to be very emotional to witness, and we love to see the influx of video transformations from our Novo Pro approved and trained salons across the UK. The systems are so super natural and bring back so much confidence back to the clients.”
