Novo Cabelo Collabs with The Lions Barber Collective

Suicide is the biggest killer of young men in the UK and globally someone dies by suicide every 40 seconds. 2021 saw 5,583 suicides registered in England and Wales, this was 6.9% higher than in 2020.

Renowned for their compassionate and customer-centric approach, those in the industry will know only too well that they are at times a vital sponge and sounding board for many clients. Small talk can quickly lead to clients opening-up and disclosing their deepest thoughts and anxieties. With this regular face to face contact there is no one better poised to spot triggers and changes in clients, but the role from barber to verging on counsellor can be daunting for many not trained in the field when small talk takes a turn.

Enter The Lions Barber Collective an international group of barbers who have undergone training in how to recognise symptoms of mental ill health in clients and signpost them to relevant support services. The brainchild of Tom Chapman, Tom has made it his mission to propel the stigma of mental ill health among men into the mainstream.

Rob Wood is the founder here at Novo Cabelo, the company behind the game-changing hair systems which have created a social frenzy with over 24 million TikTok views for the emotional non-surgical hair transformations. Rob knows only too well of the importance of mental ill health training and sees the vital importance of his Novo Pro approved salons investing in the BarberTalk Training.

Rob Wood, Director at Novo Cabelo said:

“Male balding can have a detrimental impact on mental health and wellbeing, especially in some of our younger clients. Men’s experience of balding can receive less attention in society, they can be told it’s the ‘norm’, and at times face a rath of jokes and ridicule around the sensitive subject. Which in turn effects confidence and self-esteem, with recent research citing that male pattern baldness has been seen as a leading cause of depression in men.

It is not just about the physical process and transformation; the emotional process and support needs to go hand in hand, and this is why training from The Lions Barber Collective is so imperative.”

With an extensive chain of Novo Pro approved salons and barbers now operating across the UK, investment in training is at the root of the success here at the company. Novo Cabelo have now announced a collaboration with The Lions Barber Collective which will offer a training discount for their Novo Pros to invest in the award winning BarberTalk Training.

Those who are Novo Pro approved and sign up will receive a £250 discount on the training which costs £1980 (incl VAT) and in turn Novo Cabelo will also donate £250 to The Lions Barber Collective.
